Wishlist Wednesday: A lime green wedding

Our invites have started going out now so there’s no disguising that our colour scheme for the wedding is lime green, black and white.

It took us ages to decide on a colour scheme (what a surprise, we were indecisive about something!) but now that we’ve picked, I can’t stop looking at pretty lime green wedding pictures online.

(Most of them I found on Pinterest. Seriously, how were weddings ever planned before this site?)

I thought I’d share a collection of my favourite images with you that have given me inspiration!

My wish for this week is to have them all!

Over the next few months, I’ll have to carefully select where to use the colours on the big day because if i get too carried away it will look like we’re getting married in a swamp. A very pretty swamp.

Wishlist Wednesday – Blackout!

If you know me or have been paying attention to my blog posts, you might know that i have a thing for black furniture…

I don’t know what it is. I don’t particularly like mega dark rooms but there’s something about it I’m always drawn to. I saw this display in Selfridges earlier this week. They had a white version too, but I just found myself staring at the blackout one. I think if I was given free reign decorating the house, our home would look just like this.

Perhaps one day I should treat myself to a dungeon. Joe has his man shed after all! A girl can dream! 🙂

Wishlist Wednesday – Super shelving

This week I stumbled across a blog post on Red Hen Home on how to make an entrance in your hallway, and I love the way they’ve done it.

The blogger has re-used old suitcases as shelving. I think it looks so interesting!
Something we don’t have any of at the moment is shelving.

We have a bookcase in the lounge which is used for the enormous amount of DVDs and Blu-Rays we’ve accumulated, but I think we could do with getting one or two up in our bedroom – one of the only rooms in the house that has painted walls, ready for decoration! Then we can unpack more boxes hooray! That’s right, we’ve been in the house for a year and still haven’t unpacked. Oops! 🙂

Let’s see if i can come up with anything half as creative as this.

Wishlist Wednesday – Corking wedding memories

How many bottles of wine have a cork these days?

I recently discovered these cork place cards on my internet wedding travels, and thought it was absolutely adorable.

(Click the image to see how the bride made them.)

However, we already have our place card stuff ordered and ready for making nearer to the big day – oh yes, I’m getting organised!
Not to mention, I don’t think we’d accumulate quite so much wine before the wedding now that I’m starting my wedding diet. Well, I’ve got to start some time. And there’s all the family birthdays and Christmas smack bang in the middle. SIGH!

But… I wonder if our wedding venue would let us keep the corks from the bottles that are served? After all, what else are they going to do with them? It’s worth an ask!

I’m thinking it would be nice to create something  special with them, like this cork noticeboard.

It’d be a lovely momentum of our wedding as well as a much needed item for the kitchen – whenever we get round to installing one! 🙂

This particular website makes the board for you if you send them your corks but I think it;d be a nice project after all the excitement of the wedding has died down.

What do you think? Anyone else done anything similar with wedding ‘leftovers’? I hope we can keep the corks!

Wishlist Wednesday – Meteorite wedding rings

Wedding rings. I suppose for most couples planning on getting hitched, this is a relatively last minute decision when all the major bookings are done and dusted.

But, as we have a long wait until our big day (aproximately 1 year, 8 months if you’re wondering – we’ll let you know when we officially set a date!) we’ve been taking a peek at the more ‘fun’ parts of planning a wedding.

I’ve stumbled across Meteorite wedding rings on a couple of blogs now. I assumed with wedding rings, you just picked what colour gold you wanted (white for me please) and went on your way.

But no, now you can get rings with parts of actual meteorite in them. As in, bits of SPACE!

I’ll admit, although I’m sceptical about how authentic they’d be, I still squealed when I saw them, thinking something along these lines:
…If a wedding ring was a she. Moving on!

Apparently the meteorite is never ‘perfect’ , obviously because it’s not manufactured, and on one particular Etsy shop that sells them, it says:
“Their imperfection makes them unique and beautiful. Meteorites are formed as they travel through space and millions of years later they may land on earth.”

Here are a few from that shop.

14K White Gold with solid Meteorite inlay Ring Set – from Etsy shop “jewelrybyjohan”

Mens Wedding Band – Meteorite and Green Box Elder Burl Wood inlay – from Etsy Shop “jewelrybyjohan”

I think the problem here is that I love the idea of them much more than the designs themselves. The simpler ones are really quite pretty but it looks like they’re a couple of thousand dollars. Not to mention, they look quite chunky and I have dainty fingers.

I think, for me, because I love my engagment ring so much, I wouldn’t want anything to detract from that, so I’ll most likely end up going for a plain band.

If you’re on the lookout for a geeky spacey wedding though, I can’t think of anything more perfect!

Wishlist Wednesday – A wedding that’s ‘us’

I haven’t done a wedding-related Wishlist Wednesday yet, but as we’re gearing up to view some potential venues in the next few weeks, I think it’s about time I did!

I’ve been looking for inspiration since we became engaged. What type of wedding do we want? Should we have a theme? What colours do we like? What kind of dress will suit my figure? Honestly, there is a LOT to consider.

I find that magazines are quite samey and generally I want our wedding to be traditional in the sense that I want my step-dad to give me away, my groom to make a speech,  and to not see each other before the big day – those traditions.

In terms of the rest, I think I’d want to do something really different.

There are plenty of ‘real stories‘ in magazines and a lot of them are fab. But after reading two or three, they all blend into one. I stumbled across this blog post which is honestly the best wedding I’ve seen – Dorian & Lynn’s geeky elegant dino museum wedding.

I can see myself and Joe stealing borrowing a lot of these ideas as a starting point. After all, Joe took me to Manchester Museum so I could see the dinosaurs just before he popped the question. Perhaps that’s why I love it so much.

I hope our wedding is as creative and memorable, but in our own way.

Wishlist Wednesday – More moustaches

Cast your mind back to February. I posted a Wishlist Wednesday about moustache-related furniture/ornaments.

They seem to be really ‘in‘ at the moment and we’re seeing them everywhere. But, on a recent wander round the shops, we found this simple piece of moustache-art in Next.

For once, I’m going to make this Wishlist Wednesday a reality. I’m going to buy it on payday and put it above our bed. Pictures surely to follow!

Wishlist Wednesday – The William

This week I’m loving The William.
Joe posted this video onto my Facebook wall earlier last week – yes that’s right, we live together and yet still talk on Facebook. I don’t know if this is tragic or terribly romantic. I’ll let you decide…

Anywho, it just fascinated me!

We’re not ready to start work on our kitchen just yet, and I’m pretty sure it’s safe to say that when we do, it won’t contain anything quite so advanced. I actually prefer gas cookers and I think giving a computer heat instructions takes away half the fun out of cooking. But the lazy person in me thought it was a brilliant idea.

What do you lot think? Has anyone seen one before?

Wishlist Wednesday -11th April 2012

I’ve not done a Wishlist Wednesday for a while because I’ve simply been too busy! For those that are interested (mostly Joe’s mates from work – hello lads!) I’ll keep them coming, but maybe not every week.

The other day I stumbled across a blog post from Lily Loves Lola talking about an Etsy store called ClosetCat.

She showed a picture frame called In case of emergency, and I just love the idea. Joe absolutely adores Monopoly but maybe I’ll try and create something a bit more personalised for us. I’m thinking about doing a gallery of fun art somewhere in the house and I think this would make a great addition.

There is this baby one as well, and I thought of all my pregnant mates when I saw it. How cute!
I need to think of something personal to me & Joe – maybe a cocktail umbrella and minatures of our favourite drinks would do the trick? (Southern Comfort for me, Cognac for Joe) Perhaps this is one to add to the “finishing touches” list for when we get a kitchen in a year or so.

Wishlist Wednesday – 14th March 2012

Something that we loved about the house when we first spotted it about a year ago (I can’t believe it has been that long!) is the area. It’s lovely. There are lots of families that live on our street and you will struggle to go five minutes without seeing someone happily walking their dog. Awww. How quaint.

Well, I love dogs. In fact, if you know me, you’ll probably know I’m a sucker for pets in general and if we had it my way, I’d have a full on personal zoo. But, Joe has categorically said that we will never be getting a dog for one reason alone: their poo.

Joe’s argument:
They do their business anywhere they want and it smells awful.

(I don’t think it helps that Joe often destroys lovely shoes by walking in the….filth)

Karen’s argument:
But everybody poops Joe! And we would never let our doggy woggy go to the toilet without appropriate training and cleaning it up.

Well, apart from my ridiculous baby talk when discussing cute animals, I thought I had a pretty sound argument. But nope, I didn’t.

Since moving in the house, we have replaced the front fences and moved some concrete posts to allow room for a front gate one day (at the end of the driveway we will one day build. Seriously, our to-do list just grows by the day!).

As you can see from Google Maps, our house used to look like this before it was vacant:
It looks very different now and from the black fence to the right is cleared and all open. (I smashed that black fence with a spade. It was so much fun) So open in fact that plenty of dogs are coming into the driveway and doing their toilet business on our imaginary driveway. And their owners are allowing it!

Joe witnessed it the other day and if he weren’t naked, I think the dog owner would have got the beating of their life. (By the way, he’d just had a bath re: the nakedness. Nothing dodgy here folks!) Actually this image of a naked Joe battering one of our neighbours is really making me chuckle to myself.

Anyway, I think I’ve waffled on enough now. For the time being Joe put some bleach down on the front, as his mum said this was a good tip for deterring the dogs from popping it’s leg up on our new fence. Unfortunately, all we had was Domestos (lemony fresh!) so we’ll see how it goes.
So, in a nutshell, we need a gate.
And since it’s Wishlist Wednesday, I’d also like a pug puppy. One that doesn’t poo please.
