About this blog

Hello. This is Karen.
I’ll probably be the one you’ll hear from the most on here. But I’ll give you a rundown of what this is. I have been with my boyfriend Joe since 2006. After living together renting a flat for a year, we decided we were in this for the long haul, and it was time to get on the property ladder.
On 26th August 2011, on the week of our 5 year anniversary, we got the keys to our first house. Yippee! It was a long and painful process – and as many warned us, very stressful. But, very worth it. We now have our own home to work on over the next few years and make it our own.
The house, which was built in the 1940’s, has not been updated since, and has been vacant for almost a year, meaning it is dirty, rotting in places, and in need of a lot (seriously, a lot) of modernisation. This means we got it for a good price, and means we can start from scratch and make it into our perfect home. (Potential was truly the word that the estate agents were leaning on.)
We are both a bit forgetful me and Joe, so we wanted somewhere we could write about our adventure of doing up our castle, so we can look back in months/years and laugh at how it used to look. This is what this blog will be.
We may just post pictures of how it is going, stuff that inspires us, or we may ask for tips from time to time. Either way, hope you enjoy.

I like funny hats by the way.

Update 28th April 2012:
We are engaged! So just a warning, expect wedding talk too 🙂

  1. great idea for a blog. I did up my house, it was epic and took loads longer than I’d imagined, but it was an incredible journey and I am very proud of the end result and how much effort it took to get there. I have a few before and after photos in an album – this blog will be such a good record. – very best wishes and good luck.
